Jong FC Groningen speelt maandagavond de laatste thuiswedstrijd in de competitie en bovendien in de succesvolle formule van de Beloften Eredivisie. Na volgende week verdwijnt de hoogste divisie van veertien teams na exact tien seizoenen.
In 2002 werd door de KNVB de Beloften-categorie ingesteld, waarbij een team voornamelijk uit speler van ’23 jaar en jonger’ mocht bestaan. De Beloften Eredivisie was een voortzetting van de Reserve Eredivisie die op haar beurt weer een uitvloeisel was van de voormalige competitie van C-elftallen.
FC Groningen nam sinds het kampioenschap in de Eerste Divisie A in 2006 zes jaar deel aan de Beloften Eredivisie en eindigde achtereenvolgens als zevende, zesde, twaalfde, vierde en derde. Het puntentotaal (45) dat trainer Dick Lukkien vorig seizoen neerzette zal niet meer gebroken worden. Het aantal gewonnen wedstrijden is nog wel een doel. Momenteel staat het record op 12 (in 2008, 2010 en 2011). Vanavond kan daaraan in de thuiswedstrijd tegen Jong NEC/FC Oss het dertiende worden toegevoegd.
Trefzeker is de ploeg dit seizoen ook. Het oude clubrecord van 41 werd fors gebroken en staat voorlopig op 50, met volgende week ook nog de uitwedstrijd tegen Jong ADO Den Haag voor de boeg. Clubtopscorer is Suk Hyun-Jun met zeven treffers. Hij komt vanavond in actie, net als Koen van de Laak en Matias Jones van de A-kern. Tim Keurntjes (6 treffers) komt niet in actie en zal mogelijk komende maandag nog een keer zijn opwachting maken.
Komend seizoen worden alle Beloftenteams verdeeld over drie groepen van acht teams, die (verdeeld in regio’s) een halve competitie zullen afwerken. Vervolgens worden de nummers 1 tot en met 4 en de nummers 5 tot en met 8 bij elkaar ingedeeld en wordt nog een volledige competitie gespeeld in beide poules. Hierdoor is er geen ruimte meer voor een bekertoernooi en dus blijft Jong Ajax titelhouder zonder de beker te hoeven verdedigen. Jong FC Twente werd onlangs de laatste kampioen van de Beloften Eredivisie in de huidige opzet met veertien teams.
Het duel tussen Jong FC Groningen en Jong NEC/FC Oss staat vanavond onder leiding van Jeroen Manschot. De wedstrijd begint om 18.30 uur op Corpus den Hoorn. De toegang is zoals gebruikelijk gratis.
