Jong FC Groningen heeft maandagmiddag op overtuigende wijze de halve finale van het bekertoernooi voor Beloften bereikt. In Limburg werd Jong VVV-Venlo met 4-0 verslagen. Henk Bos scoorde tweemaal. In de halve finales speelt de FC nu uit tegen Jong Ajax.
In het laatste kwartier voor de pauze kwam FC Groningen op voorsprong door een treffer van Matias Jones. Vlak voor de pauze maakte Henk Bos er 0-2 van. Een kwartier voor tijd werd het 0-3, opnieuw door Bos. Leandro Bacuna bepaalde de eindstand op 0-4.
De overige duels in de kwartfinales: Jong Ajax-Jong Heerenveen 5-2, Jong Twente-Jong Utrecht 1-2 (n.v.) Jong Heracles-Jong Vitesse 3-4. De halve finales Ajax-Groningen en Utrecht-Vitesse worden gespeeld op maandag 20 februari. Op donderdag 3 mei is de finale gepland op neutraal terrein.
Trainer Dick Lukkien: “Over deze wedstrijd ben ik tevreden. We zijn moeizaam begonnen tegen een massaal terugzakkend VVV. We zijn een of twee keer ‘in de counter getrapt’. Vanaf de 1-0 kwam er rust in de ploeg en hebben we vrij simpel de wedstrijd kunnen uitspelen. AZ lukte het in de vorige ronde tegen hen niet om de rust te bewaren. Ons is het wel gelukt VVV kapot te spelen.
