Jong FC Groningen heeft vanavond in Hengelo met 1-1 gelijkgespeeld tegen Jong FC Twente. Dennis Krohne scoorde na de pauze de gelijkmaker. Belangrijk was ook de nederlaag van FC Utrecht tegen NEC.
Daardoor is de ploeg van trainer Erwin van de Looi namelijk een punt uitgelopen en kan het team volgende week in de thuiswedstrijd tegen De Graafschap het Eredivisieschap gaan veiligstellen.
In Hengelo kwam de thuisploeg na een kwartier spelen op voorsprong door een doelpunt van Vidarsson. Drie minuten na de pauze maakte de van een blessure teruggekeerde Dennis Krohne de 1-1.
De tweede helft was razend spannend. Hoewel Jong FC Groningen de beste kansen had, scoorde de ploeg niet vaker. FC Twente was met een vrije trap dichtbij een tweede treffer. Leon ter Wielen stopte vervolgens nog een strafschop van Lesley Nahrwold en zo kon een punt worden bijgeschreven.
Jong FC Utrecht verloor in eigen huis van Jong NEC en heeft daardoor een achterstand van vier punten op Jong FC Groningen. Er zijn nog twee duels te spelen. Komende maandag, 27 april, speelt Groningen thuis tegen Jong De Graafschap en is een zege voldoende voor handhaving. Op de slotspeeldag, dinsdag 5 mei, staat Jong Utrecht-Jong Groningen op de rol.
