Jong FC Groningen heeft maandagavond met 1-0 gewonnen van Jong Vitesse/AGOVV. De enige treffer werd na een halfuur gescoord door Vitesse-speler Nikola Aksentijevic.
Op Sportpark Walburgen in het Gelderse Gendt was het veld door de net ingetreden dooi slecht bespeelbaar. Rond het middaguur was het veld na een herkeuring voldoende bespeelbaar bevonden en dus werd om half zeven afgetrapt. Uitwijken naar kunstgras is door het bankroet van de Apeldoornse profclub niet meer mogelijk voor het combinatieteam.
In Gendt stonden bij beide ploegen een handvol spelers uit de eerste selectie aan de aftrap. Aan de kant van Groningen zes in getal, te weten Filip Kostic, Paco van Moorsel, David Texeira, Henk Bos, Oluwafemi Ajilore en Stefano Magnasco. Laatstgenoemde was betrokken bij het enige doelpunt van de avond. Een voorzet van de voet van de Chileen werd door Aksentijevic achter zijn eigen doelman Eloy Room gewerkt: 0-1.
Na het doelpunt in de 28ste minuut kreeg Groningers David Texeira (paal) en Nick Bakker (naast) nog kansen. Na de onderbreking moest Stefan van der Lei één keer serieus reddend optreden en stelde hij daarmee de drie punten veilig.
Coach Dick Lukkien van de gasten sprak na afloop van een ‘gedegen teamprestatie op een werkelijk dramatisch veld.’ Ondanks de zege staat de FC nog altijd op de vijfde plek van de ranglijst. Maandag 11 februari is Jong Ajax de volgende tegenstander op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn. Aanvang is dan opnieuw 18.30 uur.
