Jong FC Groningen heeft woensdagavond in het Duitse Rehden de eerste oefenwedstrijd van het seizoen 2014/2015 met 1-0 gewonnen. Jafar Arias werd matchwinner na een 0-0 ruststand.
De spelers van de ploeg van trainer Paul Raveneau hadden voor het merendeel al wedstrijdminuten in de benen van de oefenwedstrijden van het eerste elftal tegen RWE Eemsmond en VV Beilen.
In zijn vaderland maakte doelman Jeroen Gies voor het eerst zijn opwachting in het groen-wit van FC Groningen. Hij hield in zijn eerste wedstrijd z’n doel schoon. Naast vier van zijn teamgenoten uit de B-kern stonden Stefano Magnasco, William Ekong en Tom Hiariej van het eerste elftal in de basis en A-junioren Roland Baas, Willem Gootjes en Kasper Oldenburger die sinds de start van de voorbereiding meedraaien.
In de tweede helft van de wedstrijd maakte Jafar Arias de winnende treffer tegen de ploeg uit de Regionalliga Nord. Trainer Paul Raveneau reist vandaag (donderdag – red.) met teammanager Bas Roorda af naar het Schotse Aberdeen om de Europa League-wedstrijd tussen Aberdeen en Daugava Riga te bekijken. Op donderdag 10 juli speelt Jong FC Groningen de volgende wedstrijd. Dan is SV Urk de tegenstander. Het duel begint op Urk om 19.30 uur.
