Harris Huizingh is een echte FC’er. De boomlange nummer 10 brak door bij de FC en speelde in totaal liefst twaalf seizoenen voor de Trots van het Noorden. Daarin kwam de Huizingh tot 313 wedstrijden en staat hij op plaats 6 met meeste duels aller tijden voor de club. In de special ‘Harris Huizingh: De Tovenaar van Ter Apel’ kijkt Huizingh terug op zijn bijzondere voetballoopbaan. Bekijk de special vanaf nu op het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen.
Het had niet veel gescheeld of Huizingh – die in totaal tot ruim 370 wedstrijden kwam in het betaalde voetbal – had nooit een stap binnen de lijnen bij een profclub gezet. In zijn jeugd stopte de spits vanwege een bijzondere reden enige jaren met voetballen bij zijn amateurclub in Ter Apel.
Toen Huizingh op relatief late leeftijd besloot zijn voetbalschoenen toch weer aan te trekken ging het hard met de man die meerdere bijnamen kreeg in zijn carrière, waarvan de bekendste ‘De Tovenaar van Ter Apel’ is geweest. Zijn lengte en uitstekende timing maakte van de aanvaller een kopsterke spits, maar Huizingh was naast fysiek sterk voor het doel uitermate technisch.
Zijn carrière bracht hem langs drie noordelijke profclubs waarbij FC Groningen echt wel zijn club is geworden en gebleven. Hij speelde verreweg het langst in Groningen ondanks interesse van andere grote clubs en maakte mooie successen mee in het Stadion Oosterpark. In de special ‘Harris Huizingh: De Tovenaar van Ter Apel’ kijkt Huizingh vanuit zijn achtertuin tevreden terug op zijn loopbaan. De special werd eerder deze week uitgezonden op ESPN en is vanaf nu terug te kijken via het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen.
