De KNVB heeft het bekerduel van FC Groningen met Flevo Boys in de derde ronde van het KNVB-bekertoernooi vastgesteld. De ploeg van trainer Erwin van de Looi wordt op woensdag 29 oktober om 20.00 uur aan de aftrap verwacht op Sportpark Ervenbos in Emmeloord.
FC Groningen kwalificeerde zich voor deze bekerronde middels een eenvoudige en overtuigende 1-4 overwinning op zaterdag topklasser Barendrecht. Flevo Boys rekende in de vorige ronde af met eersteklasser DOS’37: 1-0. In de eerste ronde werd Haaglandia met liefst 6-2 aan de kant gezet door de club uit Flevoland. De loting tegen FC Groningen betekent de derde thuiswedstrijd op rij in de huidige bekercompetitie voor de amateurclub uit Emmeloord. Opgericht Flevo Boys werd in 1957 opgericht en is momenteel koploper in de zaterdag Hoofdklasse C. In 1982 was de club voor het eerst actief op het hoogste amateurniveau. Met uitzondering van de seizoenen 2004/2005 (eerste klasse) en 2010/2011 (Topklasse) speelde Flevo Boys altijd in de hoofdklasse. Trainer van de ploeg uit Emmeloord is Wiljan Mossing Holsteyn.
Voor FC Groningen wordt het de tweede keer dat het in Flevoland een officiële wedstrijd speelt. In augustus 1998 werd SV Urk in een bekerduel met 4-0 verslagen.
