Donderdagmiddag hebben de wijken Beijum uit Groningen (10-12 jaar) en Gorecht-West uit Hoogezand (13-15 jaar) op Sportpark Vinkhuizen de finales van FC Groningen Buurt Battle gewonnen.
In de jongste categorie kwamen in de finale twee teams uit Groningen tegen elkaar uit. Het team van Beijum dat werd begeleid door Andraz Kirm won in de finale van Vinkhuizen, dat een thuiswedstrijd speelde en werd bijgestaan door Lorenzo Burnet. De eindstand in de finale was 5-3. Ook vorig jaar won Beijum in de categorie van 10 tot 12 jaar.
Bij de oudste categorie, van 13 tot 15 jaar, werd de titel geprolongeerd door Gorecht-West uit Hoogezand. Dit team met David Texeira als coach won de wedstrijd van Spoorstraat-Kieldiep met 3-2. Het andere team uit Hoogezand werd gecoacht door Rasmus Lindgren. Sociale cohesie Met de FC Groningen Buurt Battle zet FC Groningen zich samen met de partners Menzis, Nijestee, Lefier (Hoogezand), gemeente Hoogezand-Sappemeer en de gemeente Groningen in voor een aantal belangrijke zaken. Zo willen de partners met dit project de sociale cohesie en de ouderbetrokkenheid vergroten, de leefstijl verbeteren en overlast terug dringen. Daarnaast zijn normen en waarden en sportparticipatie belangrijke aspecten binnen het project.
Dit jaar werd het deelnemersveld uitgebreid van zes naar tien wijken: Oosterpark, Vinkhuizen, Groningen-Zuid, Selwerd, Beijum, Lewenborg, De Hoogte/Indische Buurt, Hoogkerk (allen in Groningen) en Gorecht-West en Spoorstraat-Kieldiep (beiden in Hoogezand).
