Leandro Bacuna is het EK onder-19 in Frankrijk begonnen met een 4-1 nederlaag tegen het gastland. De middenvelder van FC Groningen speelde de eerste helft.
Bij een 1-0 achterstand werd een strafschop nog gestopt door doelman Jeroen Zoet. Nog voor de pauze kwamen de Fransen voor eigen publiek op een 2-0 voorsprong.
In de tweede helft werd Bacuna vervangen en zag hij zijn teamgenoten met 4-1 verliezen. Jerson Cabral redde de eer voor de Nederlandse ploeg. De andere wedstrijd in Groep A eindigde in een 3-2 zege van Engeland op Oostenrijk.
Komende woensdag speelt Nederland onder-19 tegen Engeland. Drie dagen later is de ploeg van bondscoach Wim van Zwam tegenstander van Oostenrijk. De nummers 1 en 2 plaatsen zich uiteindelijk voor de halve finales.
