Het Nederlands Elftal onder-19 heeft de EK-kwalificatie met succes afgerond. Na het gelijkspel tegen Slowakije won Oranje van achtereenvolgens Polen en ook van Duitsland. Eind juli neemt de ploeg van bondscoach Wim van Zwam deel aan het EK in Frankrijk.
Oranje was dinsdag tegen Slowakije wel de betere ploeg, maar wist niet veel uitgelezen kansen te creëren. Een kwartier voor het einde van het duel werd basisspeler Leandro Bacuna gewisseld.
Donderdag was Oranje na een 0-0 ruststand met 2-0 te sterk voor Polen. Bacuna speelde in dit duel de volle negentig minuten.
Op zondag was Duitsland in De Koel in Venlo de derde en laatste opponent in de groep van vier landen. Na een uur spelen was de wedstrijd reeds beslist met een 3-0 tussenstand. Op dat moment werd Bacuna vervangen. In de score kwam geen verandering meer.
Nederland plaatste zich hierdoor als de winnaar van de poule – voor het eerst in tien jaar – voor het EK onder-19 in Frankrijk, dat van 18 tot en met 30 juli wordt gehouden.
