Leandro Bacuna en Maikel Kieftenbeld zijn opgenomen in de ‘long-list’ voor Jong Oranje dat eind mei twee oefenwedstrijden speelt. Doelman Renze Fij is opgenomen in de voorselectie voor Oranje onder-19.
Ter voorbereiding op de start van de kwalificatie voor het EK 2013 neemt Jong Oranje eind mei deel aan een vriendschappelijk toernooi in Oostenrijk. De ploeg van bondscoach Cor Pot speelt daar twee oefeninterlands, tegen de generatiegenoten van Israël (27 mei) en Albanië (30 mei).
Er is een voorlopige selectie van 36 spelers samengesteld. Pot maakt uitsluitend gebruik van spelers die geboren zijn op of na 1 januari 1990. Deze lichting is speelgerechtigd in de nieuwe EK-kwalificatiereeks die na de zomer van start gaat. Vrijdag 20 mei wordt de definitieve groep bekend. Er wordt rekening gehouden met clubs die play-offs spelen. Onder-19 Van 18 tot en met 25 mei speelt Oranje onder-19 in Tsjechië het EK-kwalificatietoernooi tegen Israël, het gastland en Rusland. Op dinsdag 10 mei wordt de definitieve selectie bekend. Vijf dagen later reist de selectie af naar Tsjechië. De winnaar plaatst zich voor het EK van komende zomer.
