Leandro Bacuna en Steffen Bakker hebben dinsdagavond in Waalwijk met 1-1 gelijkgespeeld tegen Engeland onder-19. Bacuna speelde het eerste uur, Bakker het laatste halfuur.
Middenvelder Leandro Bacuna stond in de basis van het Nederlands Elftal onder-19 van bondscoach Wim van Zwam. Het team is in voorbereiding op een EK-kwalificatietoernooi.
Zo’n 1.000 toeschouwers zagen Engeland al na zeven minuten op een voorsprong komen. De 0-1 score was ook de ruststand. Na een uur spelen vonden diverse wissels plaats bij beide teams. Bacuna moest plaatsmaken voor Steven Berghuis. Op hetzelfde moment kwam Steffen Bakker onder de lat in plaats van doelman Marco Bizot. Zes minuten voor het einde van de wedstrijd scoorde Lorenzo Burnet de gelijkmaker namens Nederland.
Eind mei speelt Oranje onder-19 een minitoernooi in eigen land. Tegenstanders zijn Duitsland, Slowakije en Polen en de inzet plaatsing voor het EK, later in de zomer van 2010. Het is voor dit team tien jaar geleden dat plaatsing voor de eindronde werd afgedwongen.
