Leandro Bacuna heeft donderdag op Malta zijn debuut gemaakt voor Oranje onder-19. De middenvelder viel een halfuur voor tijd bij een 0-0 stand in tegen het gastland. Nederland won met 1-0.
Bacuna werd als reserve op het laatste moment nog toegevoegd aan de selectie van bondscoach Wim van Zwam. Terwijl Bacuna twee minuten binnen de lijnen stond, werd de enige en dus winnende treffer binnen gekopt door zijn teamgenoot Marten de Roon die ook al afkomstig was van de standby-lijst.
Komende zaterdag speelt Oranje tegen Cyprus. Op dinsdag wordt het minitoernooi afgesloten met een wedstrijd tegen Tsjechië, dat eveneens het eerste groepsduel won. De nummers 1 en 2 plaatsen zich voor de volgende kwalificatieronde.
