Het Nederlands Elftal onder-19 heeft woensdagavond in Bayeux met 1-0 gewonnen van Engeland. Leandro Bacuna speelde de volle negentig minuten.
Door het doelpunt van Steven Berghuis in de zesde minuut van de wedstrijd blijft de ploeg van bondscoach Wim van Zwam volop in de race voor een plek in de halve finales. Frankrijk won in Groep A van Oostenrijk en dus staat Nederland nu samen met Engeland achter het gastland op de tweede plaats.
Komende zaterdag staan Frankrijk-Engeland en Nederland-Oostenrijk op het programma. Als Nederland een beter resultaat behaalt dan Engeland, staat een halve finale tegen de winnaar van groep B, Spanje, op het programma.
