Vanmiddag geeft Arjen Robben tijdens een speciale persconferentie samen met schrijver Fred Diks tekst en uitleg over zijn ‘eigen’ kinderboek. Ook onthult de 29-jarige international uit Groningen de eerste zin van het boek en de voorkant van zijn nieuwe succesverhaal. Speler en schrijver worden bijgestaan door Robbens oud-leraar, ‘meester Wim’. Wellicht doet hij daarbij een boekje open over de lees- en schrijfprestaties van de topvoetballer van Bayern München.

De vraag is niet óf, maar hóe international Arjen Robben dit jaar met zijn club Bayern München de UEFA Champions League gaat winnen. Twaalf Groningen basisschoolklassen, waaronder een klas van de Togtemaarschool, Robbens voormalige school uit Bedum, schrijven gezamenlijk dit succesverhaal. Schrijver Fred Diks, bekend van de boeken- en televisieserie Koen Kampioen, maakt van alle twaalf verhalen een geheel. Dit kinderboek, waarin Robben wederom de belangrijkste clubtitel wint, verschijnt in januari 2014.
Dit nieuwe succesverhaal van Arjen Robben is een initiatief van Stichting Lezen & Schrijven en de Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij. Stichting Lezen & Schrijven zet zich in voor een beter geletterd Nederland. In Nederland heeft één op de tien mensen moeite met lezen en schrijven. Van alle kinderen in Nederland loopt 13 procent het risico op latere leeftijd onder de noemer ‘laaggeletterd’ te vallen. Goed lezen en schrijven begint op jonge leeftijd. Kinderen gaan actief met taal aan de slag. Het succesverhaal van Arjen Robben kan uiteindelijk weer worden voorgelezen door grootouders en door kinderen zelf.
FC Groningen is de club waar Robben zijn glansrijke voetbalcarrière is gestart. Het is een volksclub, sterk verankerd in haar eigen verzorgingsgebied met een landelijke uitstraling en Europese ambities. Als Betaald Voetbal Organisatie heeft FC Groningen een voorbeeldfunctie en staat het midden in de maatschappij. Hiertoe heeft FC Groningen in september 2010 een eigen stichting in het leven geroepen: de Stichting FC Groningen in de Maatschappij. Onder deze vlag zijn tal van goede doelen en maatschappelijke projecten ondergebracht. Met Arjen Robben als ambassadeur en de Groningse Commissaris van de Koning Max van den Berg als voorzitter, zet de stichting zich vooral in voor Gezondheid, Sociale samenhang en Educatie.
