Het Alfa-college is gestart met de voorbereiding voor de nieuwbouw op het terrein naast de Euroborg aan de Boumaboulevard in Groningen. In mei beginnen de bouwwerkzaamheden.
Het gebouw wordt zeven bouwlagen hoog, 144 meter lang en 18 meter breed. Het komt langs de Boumaboulevard en vóór de gebouwen van de Jumbo, Plaza Sportiva, Fair Play Casino en Euroborg. Het gebouw doorsnijdt de huidige trappen en wordt als het ware in de wierde geschoven.
Het ontwerp is van AAS Architecten te Groningen. De bouw wordt gerealiseerd door aannemingsbedrijf Jorritsma Bouw West bv te Bolsward voor de bouwkundige werkzaamheden. Cofely Noord uit Roden voert de werktuigbouwkundige en elektrotechnische werkzaamheden uit.
In deze nieuwbouw worden diverse opleidingen, het College van Bestuur en ondersteunende diensten gehuisvest. De verwachting is dat het nieuwe gebouw in het seizoen 2012/2013 in gebruik wordt genomen.
