FC Groningen zal het zondagmiddag in de thuiswedstrijd tegen Ajax moeten stellen zonder Krisztian Adorjan en Timo Letschert. De Hongaar is voor twee wedstrijden geschorst en de centrale verdediger is automatisch voor één duel geschorst.
Adorjan kreeg zondagmiddag in de uitwedstrijd tegen Go Ahead Eagles na bijna zeventig minuten voetballen de rode kaart. Volgens scheidsrechter Jeroen Sanders was er sprake van ‘ernstig gemeen spel, dan wel het slaan van een tegenspeler’ in de Adelaarshorst.
De aanklager betaald voetbal deed de Hongaar vandaag (maandag) op basis van alle verklaringen een schikkingsvoorstel van drie duels schorsing, waarvan één voorwaardelijk met een proeftijd van een jaar. FC Groningen en de speler zijn akkoord gegaan met dit schikkingsvoorstel. Adorjan mist hierdoor de competitiewedstrijden tegen Ajax (zondag 1 september) en sc Heerenveen (zondag 15 september). Automatisch Ook Timo Letschert moet het toptreffen met Ajax in Euroborg zondagmiddag vanaf de tribunes bekijken. De centrale verdediger ontving tegen Go Ahead twee minuten na de directe rode kaart voor Adorjan zijn tweede gele kaart van de wedstrijd. De veldverwijzing kost Letschert een automatische schorsing van één duel.
FC Groningen slaagde er zondagmiddag in Deventer ondanks een numerieke minderheid in met negen spelers een 3-2 achterstand ongedaan te maken.
