Een interessant openingsweekeinde van de competitie. Liefst vier jeugdteams van RVO FC Groningen/Cambuur komen in actie tegen Ajax. Op Corpus den Hoorn worden een drietal wedstrijden afgewerkt.
FC Groningen/Cambuur B2staat voor haar eerste seizoen en debuteert met een thuismatch tegen Ajax B2. De ploeg van trainer Peter Hoekstra speelt in een gesloten competitie voor onder-16 teams. Daarna spelen de A-junioren op Corpus ook tegen Ajax. Traditiegetrouw heeft het vlaggenschip van de RVO het moeilijk tegen de Amsterdammers. Zo gingen 19 van de 21 wedstrijden verloren. De thuisploeg wist tevens nog nooit de nul te houden. De voetbalzaterdag wordt begonnen met het duel van D1 versus D2, twee teams binnen de eigen opleiding dus. In de voorgaande twee edities ging de zege telkens naar de groenwitten. Vorig seizoen werd het liefst 10-2 voor de ploeg van trainer Hugo.
