Aanvaller Mees Schoenmaker staat deze keer centraal in de serie ‘Van Eigen Bodem’. In deze videoserie worden spelers uit de FC Groningen Opleiding ondervraagd over hun passie voor het voetbal en hun dromen van de toekomst. De speler van FC Groningen onder-14 weet heel goed waar hij naartoe wil, maar weet ook dat het een lange weg is om dat uiteindelijk doel te bereiken.
Mees begon op zeer jonge leeftijd met voetballen bij vv Actief, de amateurvereniging uit Eelde/Paterswolde. Zijn club is één van de vele verenigingen aangesloten bij de FC Groningen Amateurconvenant. De vleugelaanvaller viel op bij zijn team en stroomde in binnen de Opleiding van FC Groningen.
Mees Schoenmaker is een handenbinder voor verdedigers. Lekker dribbelen, acties maken en tegenstanders doldraaien. “Acties maken vind ik het leukste aan voetbal. Iedereen voorbij spelen. Er zijn nog genoeg dingen waar ik beter in moet worden. Ik wil graag nog geplaatster kunnen schieten en beter worden in het verdedigen. Zo kunnen we weer eerder de bal veroveren en aanvallen.”
De aanvaller speelt momenteel in FC Groningen onder-14, de selectie die onder leiding staat van trainer/coach/manager Jeroen Scholma. Schoenmaker zal nog de nodige stappen moeten zetten om zijn uiteindelijk droom waar te maken. “Dat is profvoetballer worden. Eerst bij FC Groningen en daarna hopelijk naar een club als Barcelona, Real Mardrid of ergens in de Engelse Premier League.” Voor het zover is zal hij daar iedere dag keihard voor blijven werken.
