In de serie ‘Van eigen bodem’ wordt deze keer samen met Marco Speelman teruggekeken op het begin van zijn voetballoopbaan. Hoe het is om bij FC Groningen te spelen en wat zijn doelen zijn voor in de toekomst. Speelman is 16 jaar oud en komt uit voor FC Groningen onder-18.
Marco Speelman begon op zijn vijfde met voetballen bij de club uit zijn dorp, VV Annen. Al vrij snel bleek de verdediger voorop te lopen in zijn voetbalontwikkeling en pikte sc Heerenveen hem op 6-jarige leeftijd op. Nadat Speelman enkele jaren later ook een brief van FC Groningen in de bus kreeg, was de keuze snel gemaakt. Via de toentertijd nog Regionale Voetbalschool – tegenwoordig Voorselectie – stroomde de verdediger in binnen de Opleiding van de Trots van het Noorden.
“Ik voetbal hier met heel veel plezier. Het is hartstikke mooi om bij een BVO te voetballen en FC Groningen is altijd al mijn favoriete club geweest. Om voor te spelen en als supporter. Ik ben een linksback die taakbewust is.”
Speelman heeft in het verleden al een nominatie voor Strijder van het Jaar op zijn naam staan. Zijn dromen zijn duidelijk. “Mijn eerste doel is om me hier te blijven doorontwikkelen en Euroborg te halen. Daar ga ik voor, om vanuit daar een vaste basisspeler te worden. Als dat lukt, zie ik wel wat er op mijn pad komt.”
