Björn Veldhuis is de vijfde en laatste genomineerde van het seizoen 2022/2023 voor de eretitel Flonk Hotels Strijder van het Jaar. De aanvoerder van FC Groningen onder-16 heeft inmiddels de overstap gemaakt naar Onder-18. De verdediger is afkomstig uit Drachten en heeft tot op heden de gehele Opleiding van FC Groningen doorlopen.
Veldhuis begon met voetballen bij VV Drachten en na een jaar bij Drachtster Boys stroomde de verdediger op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn in bij de FC Groningen Opleiding. Komend seizoen maakt Veldhuis deel uit van FC Groningen onder-18, de selectie waar hij al regelmatig trainde en ook al voor is gedebuteerd. “Ik denk dat ik de laatste maanden goede stappen heb gezet, ook als aanvoerder van FC Groningen onder-16.”
Trainer/Coach/Manager Björn Zwikker is enthousiast over de ontwikkeling van de captain. “Björn is beresterk en was afgelopen seizoen onze aanvoerder. Hij heeft daarin absoluut zijn verantwoordelijkheid gepakt voor het team en is altijd voorop gegaan in de strijd. Daarom is dit in onze ogen een logische nominatie voor de titel Flonk Hotels Strijder van het Jaar.”
Eerder dit seizoen zijn Roy Leicester, Samuel Dikos, Fofin Turay en Thom van Bergen al genomineerd voor de eretitel van de FC Groningen Opleiding.
