Vier Groningse internationals zijn de komende periode op pad met hun land voor het spelen van interlands. Aanvoerder Leandro Bacuna komt uit voor Curaçao. Verdediger Thijmen Blokzijl en keeper Jasper Meijster hebben zich gevoegd bij de selectie van Nederland onder-19. Opleidingsspeler Samuel Dikos is geselecteerd voor Slowakije onder-18. Alle spelers hebben de FC Groningen Opleiding doorlopen of zijn nog steeds onderdeel van de Opleiding.
Clubs uit de Keuken Kampioen Divisie hebben dit jaar de mogelijkheid gekregen om tijdens de interlandperiodes niet te hoeven voetballen. Twaalf clubs, onder wie FC Groningen, hebben daarvan gebruik gemaakt.
Leandro Bacuna staat met Curaçao twee uitwedstrijden te wachten in de Concacaf Nations League A. Vrijdag 8 september middernacht Nederlandse tijd gaat de selectie van Curaçao op bezoek bij Trinidad & Tobago. Zondag 10 september 22.00 uur wordt de uitwedstrijd gespeeld tegen Martinique.
Verdediger Thijmen Blokzijl en keeper Jasper Meijster zijn geselecteerd voor Oranje onder-19. De selectie van de Groningse bondscoach Mischa Visser oefent op maandag 11 september tegen de leeftijdsgenoten van Italië. Het duel wordt gespeeld in Prato en afgetrapt om 16.30 uur.
Opleidingsspeler Samuel Dikos, uitkomend in FC Groningen onder-18, is geselecteerd voor Slowakije onder-18. Er staan deze periode drie interlands op het programma voor de aanvallende middenvelder. Woensdag oefen Slowakije tegen Zwitserland, vrijdag 8 september staat een oefenduel gepland met Tsjechië en zondag 10 september is Oekraïne de tegenstander.
