FC Groningen trapt vrijdagavond speelronde 28 van de Eredivisie in gang. De Trots van het Noorden ontvangt FC Utrecht in eigen huis. De aftrap in Euroborg is om 20.00 uur. Hoofdtrainer Dennis van der Ree moet noodgedwongen wisselingen aanbrengen in het elftal, aangezien Thijmen Blokzijl niet inzetbaar is.
De jonge talentvolle centrale verdediger viel afgelopen weekend in het uitduel met Fortuna Sittard met een enkelblessure uit. Hoelang Blokzijl uit de roulatie is, kan Van der Ree niet exact aangeven. “Hij zal er echter wel een tijdje uit zijn.” Dit betekent dat de hoofdtrainer van FC Groningen opnieuw noodgedwongen moet gaan puzzelen met de opstelling.
Geloof Daarnaast wil Van der Ree zich vooral richten op het geloof dat spelers en staf moeten behouden, ondanks de moeilijke positie waarin FC Groningen verkeert. “Het spel dat we laten zien, is best wel okay, maar we geven de tegendoelpunten als cadeautjes weg. Daar ben ik strontziek van. Niettemin moeten we elke strohalm die er is vastpakken. Elke keer weer. We zijn als een bokser die klappen krijgt, maar die steeds ook weer moet opstaan. Opgeven is geen optie. Er zijn nog zeven wedstrijden, waarin 21 punten te verdelen zijn. We moeten strijdbaar blijven en er alles aan doen wat we kunnen.”
Dat gaat de ploeg vrijdagavond tegen FC Utrecht doen met de steun van een zeer goed gevulde Euroborg. “En dat zegt wat over deze mooie club. De steun is er massaal en we moeten echt alles op alles zetten om de drie punten te pakken.”
Scheidsrechter FC Groningen – FC Utrecht staat vrijdagavond vanaf 20.00 uur onder leiding van scheidsrechter Jeroen Manschot. Het stadion opent de poorten om 18.00 uur. Supporters kunnen voorafgaand aan de wedstrijd samenkomen op het supportersplein voor Euroborg en er zijn foodtrucks achter het stadion te vinden.
