Peter Houtman speelde in liefst drie periodes precies 200 officiële wedstrijden voor FC Groningen. De spits maakte daarin het duizelingwekkende aantal van 128 doelpunten en mag zich nog altijd topscorer aller tijden van de FC noemen. In de special ‘De Groningse geschiedenis van Peter Houtman’ gaat de spits van weleer terug naar voor hem historische plaatsen in Groningen.
Peter Houtman kwam in 1977 vanuit de jeugd van Feyenoord naar het Oosterpark. Het Groningse leven deed de talentvolle spits goed en Houtman scoorde in zijn eerste volwaardige seizoen in het betaalde voetbal aan de lopende band. Met 31 goals in 41 wedstrijden gaf Houtman zijn visitekaartje af en bracht hij de FC-supporters op de banken van het Oosterpark.
Houtman trok na zijn debuutseizoen terug naar Feyenoord, maar kwam in 1979 vanuit het Belgische Club Brugge terug naar FC Groningen. In 1980 werd Houtman met de Trots van het Noorden kampioen van de eerste divisie. De jaren daarop liet de kopsterke spits ook in de Eredivisie zien goals te kunnen maken. Feyenoord stond in 1982 wederom op de stoep. Houtman keerde echter in 1985 voor de derde en laatste keer terug in Groningen.
Niet alleen in het Oosterpark voelde Houtman zich thuis. In de special ‘De Groningse geschiedenis van Peter Houtman’ keert de spits terug naar voor hem belangrijke plekken in Groningen. Daarnaast kijkt hij terug op veel van zijn 128 treffers die hij maakte voor de FC. Oud-ploeggenoot en buurman Henk Veldmate haalt in de special herinneringen op aan Houtman. De special werd eerder deze week uitgezonden op ESPN en is vanaf nu te zien op het YouTube-kanaal van FC Groningen.
