FC Groningen heeft vrijdagmiddag in Middelstum een oefenwedstrijd gespeeld tegen De Graafschap. De jonge ploeg die Dick Lukkien op het plaatselijke sportpark het veld instuurde, won met 1-0. De ruststand was 0-0. Tika de Jonge werd de matchwinner.
Op het goed bezochte sportpark van Middelstum was Tomas Suslov in de eerste helft de meest opvallende man aan Groningse zijde. Na 20 minuten leverde de Slowaak uit de heup een vlammend schot dat ternauwernood kon worden overgetikt door de doelman van de Doetinchemmers. Vijf minuten later was de goalie geklopt toen Suslov heel snel een vrije trap van net over de middenlijn onverwacht rechtstreeks op doel mikte. De bal ging over 40 meter wél over de keeper heen maar helaas voor FC Groningen en Suslov ook net langs de verkeerde kant van de paal.
In de slotfase voor de thee brak Thom van Bergen over de rechterkant sterk door. De spits hield het overzicht en legde de bal bij de tweede paal. Daar kwam Wouter Prins aan stormen, maar de linksback kreeg niet de controle om de bal binnen te werken. Waardoor de eerste helft doelpuntloos eindigde.
Na de pauze ging FC Groningen voortvarend van start. Het leverde goede kansen op voor achtereenvolgens Romano Postema en Thom van Bergen. Het was uiteindelijk Tika de Jonge die tien minuten na rust voor de 1-0 voorsprong zorgde. Ook daarna was het FC Groningen dat het grootste spelaandeel had en nog flink wat kansen bij elkaar voetbalde. In de stand kwam echter geen verandering meer nadat een doelpunt van Romano Postema werd afgekeurd.
Morgenmiddag, zaterdag 29 juli, oefent FC Groningen opnieuw. Dan is om 15.00 uur FC Emmen de tegenstander op Sportpark Boerbos in Rolde.
