FC Groningen speelt morgenavond, vrijdag 22 december, de laatste wedstrijd van 2023. De ploeg van hoofdtrainer Dick Lukkien treedt vanaf 20.00 uur aan tegen Jong FC Utrecht. Voor de jaarafsluiting in Euroborg, dat grotendeels in kerstsferen is gebracht, zijn nog kaarten beschikbaar.
FC Groningen wil de ongeslagen reeks van 9 opeenvolgende wedstrijden vrijdagavond afsluiten met een driepunter tegen Jong FC Utrecht. De overtuigende en dik verdiende bekerzege op Willem II in Tilburg geeft hiervoor voldoende vertrouwen, beaamt Dick Lukkien. βWe hebben tegen Willem II een prima wedstrijd gespeeld, waarin we heel veel goed hebben gedaan. We hadden controle over de wedstrijd en zijn amper in de problemen geweest. Maar we moeten ons goed realiseren dat we elke week weer moeten leveren. Een continue honger hebben naar resultaat.β
Dadendrang Van die dadendrang moet Jong FC Utrecht bij de afsluiting van 2023 in Euroborg het slachtoffer worden. βWe hebben in de laatste weken een basisniveau en een ondergrens ontwikkeld,β stelt de hoofdtrainer van FC Groningen. βIn vergelijking met de wedstrijd die wij aan het begin van dit seizoen in Utrecht speelden, doen we het nu vooral in de eindfase beter. We weten spelers beter te bereiken om tot kansen te komen, krijgen ook voldoende kansen, maar de afronding moet nog beter. En omdat we onszelf doorlopend moeten uitdagen om nog beter te worden, willen we tot nog meer kansen komen en nog meer doelpunten maken.β
De wedstrijdselectie van morgenavond kent in vergelijking met het bekerduel in Tilburg amper mutaties. Nordin Musampa was afgelopen week ziek, maar is voor het slotakkoord van 2023 weer inzetbaar.
