FC Groningen is erin geslaagd aanvaller Noam Emeran over te nemen van de Engelse grootmacht Manchester United. De 20-jarige Fransman tekende in Euroborg een contract voor vier seizoenen, tot medio 2027.
Noam Emeran werd geboren op 24 september 2002 en heeft naast de Franse nationaliteit Rwandese roots. De buitenspeler werd in 2011 opgenomen in de opleiding van de Franse Entente SSG en maakte in 2017 de overstap naar Amiens. Twee jaar later werd de flankspeler opgepikt door de Engelse topclub Manchester United waar hij in de jeugdopleiding uitkwam voor het Onder-18- en het Onder-23-team.
Emeran maakte afgelopen zomer deel uit van de grote voorbereidingsgroep van de eerste selectie van Manchester United. De Fransman speelde mee in verschillende oefenwedstrijden en scoorde in het oefenduel met Leeds United op 12 juli van dit jaar. Emeran speelde de afgelopen seizoenen in totaal 33 wedstrijden in de Premier League 2 voor Manchester United onder-23 en scoorde daarin 7 keer.
Noam Emeran vertelt waarom hij voor een definitieve overgang naar de Trots van het Noorden heeft gekozen. “Ik heb er zin in,” zei de Fransman in het Nederlands tijdens het kennismakingsinterview. “FC Groningen heeft een goed plan met me en uit de gesprekken bleek dat de club mij goed kende als speler. Dit is voor mij de beste keuze om me zowel op het veld als daarbuiten te ontwikkelen. Mijn doelen zijn natuurlijk om veel te spelen, goals te maken, assists te geven, kortom een betere versie van mezelf te worden.”
Waar Emeran aangeeft dat FC Groningen zich heeft verdiept in de speler, heeft de Fransman ook het een en ander meegekregen van de support in Groningen. “Ik heb in de voorbereiding geregeld bij het eerste team van Manchester United meegedaan. Ploeggenoot Donny van de Beek vertelde me dat FC Groningen een goede club is, met veel support en familiair. Ik heb een video gezien van de supporters tijdens de vorige thuiswedstijd. Ze willen echt strijden voor hun club en ik wil strijden voor de supporters.”
