Nick Bakker heeft een contract getekend bij FC Groningen tot het einde van dit seizoen. De 31-jarige linker centrale verdediger traint sinds de voorbereiding van dit seizoen mee bij de Trots van het Noorden. Bakker is door het tekenen van de overeenkomst ook tijdens officiële wedstrijden inzetbaar voor de technische staf en gaat spelen met rugnummer 15.
Nick Bakker is een echte Stadjer en begon met voetballen bij de Groningse vereniging Potetos. Bakker doorliep de gehele FC Groningen Opleiding en debuteerde op 19 februari 2012 als invaller in de met 3-0 gewonnen thuiswedstrijd tegen PSV. De Groninger stond later dat kalenderjaar op 8 december voor het eerst in de basis toen de FC met 2-0 onderuit ging op bezoek bij Ajax. In totaal speelde Bakker tot op heden zes wedstrijden in de hoofdmacht van FC Groningen.
Na twaalf jaar FC Groningen vertrok Bakker naar FC Emmen, waar hij zich ontwikkelde tot basisspeler onder de huidige hoofdtrainer van de Trots van het Noorden, Dick Lukkien. Bakker promoveerde in zijn tweede seizoen bij FC Emmen naar de Eredivisie. De stopper speelde bijna 150 wedstrijden voor de Emmenaren. Na vijf seizoenen in Drenthe vertrok Bakker naar sc Heerenveen, waar hij één seizoen uitkwam in de Eredivisie. Ook beleefde de verdediger een kortstondig buitenlands avontuur in Saoedi-Arabië.
Bakker traint sinds de zomer op Sportpark Corpus den Hoorn, speelde dit seizoen tot op heden mee in diverse oefenwedstrijden en is inmiddels helemaal fit om onderdeel uit te maken van de wedstrijdselectie van FC Groningen.
