Atlete Britt Weerman kende een bijzonder jaar. De in Assen woonachtige hoogspingster won een zilveren medaille op de wereldkampioenschappen junioren in Colombia. Ook op de Europees kampioenschap senioren liet Weerman zich zien, maar greep ze net naast eremetaal. Weerman was één van de zes topsporters die de afgelopen twaalf maanden werd gevolgd voor de contentserie ‘De Aanpakkers’ en kijkt terug op een leerzaam jaar.
In zes afleveringen van de meerdelige videoserie stond het leven van het talent in hoogspringen centraal. “Een leuke en vooral ook leerzame ervaring,” stelt Weerman. “Als ik kijk naar de eerste aflevering en die van nu dan kan ik mezelf nu beter verwoorden en presenteren. Belangrijk naarmate je verder komt in je carrière.”
Topsport heeft altijd al een belangrijke plaats gehad in het leven van Weerman, maar niet altijd op de atletiekbaan. De turnhal was in de jongere jaren het domein van de Drentse. Een elleboogblessure deed haar uiteindelijk switchen. Een succesvolle move. “Zeker, al deed stoppen met turnen op dat moment wel pijn. Het was mijn leven. Blessures horen nu eenmaal bij de sport, daar moet je mee leren dealen. Leren omgaan met tegenslagen en voor jezelf bepalen hoe je het moet aanpakken om je lichaam weer fit te krijgen.”
Weerman heeft altijd de onvoorwaardelijke steun gevoeld van haar familie en heeft de absolute focus het hoogst haalbare te behalen. Als beloning voor haar ontwikkeling is ze uitgeroepen tot Drents sporttalent van het jaar en de prestaties op de baan geven Weerman de motivatie om door te zetten.
“De Olympische Spelen is het ultieme doel, maar ik vond dat altijd best lastig om uit te spreken. Het leek nog te ver weg. Dit jaar heb ik laten zien dat het helemaal niet zo heel ver weg hoeft te zijn.” Ze is nog niet waar ze wil zijn en dus legt Britt de lat telkens weer iets hoger. Ik werk iedere dag keihard om beter te worden, ooit die magische grens van 2.00 meter te springen en toe te werken naar het hoogst haalbare.”

De deelnemende topsportorganisaties als FC Groningen, Donar, Lycurgus en Topsport Noord lanceerden in samenwerking met partners Gemeente en provincie Groningen, Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Hanzehogeschool Groningen, Topsport Talentschool, Stichting Bea en Meer en Beter Bewegen halverwege januari het initiatief de ‘Aanpakkers’. Topsport inspireert en FC Groningen wil graag haar maatschappelijke rol pakken. Niet voor niets heeft de Trots van het Noorden de maatschappelijke ambitie uitgesproken om bewegingsarmoede in het verzorgingsgebied op te willen lossen.
